    punctuated equilibrium.....

Ah good question, Darwin's theory of evolution describes a gradual and slow change that occurs as a result of environmental change (causing natural selection); Punctuated equilibrium is simply a more 'jumpy' process where species will remain much the same for extended periods of time and then...

    HSCya Later

/cry :( I'm having serious withdrawals from school; I mean it felt euphoric to have the HSC finished but not school itself gone forever...

Aww, don't be. I'll get enough marks for all of us :D btw: this didn't boost my confidence as much as I would have imagined...

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

I don't think it would matter as long as you wrote the numbers along the x axis as *something* x 6.022x10^-23 But I didn't even do that, I just put the wrong units down *Edit* It turns our the units for molecular mass are 'u' Did anyone put this down as the units for the x axis? Did we even...

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

This competition is over! You sir win the HSC! On an unrelated note, I got around the 1300 mark as well. Did anyone else accidentaly put the units on the graph as gmol^-1 instead of using the molecular mass units, dang I hope I don't lose too many marks for that...

    General Thoughts - Chemistry

Are you sure? I think it's not a buffer because it is not in the presence of a salt of it's conjugate base. All I talked about was it being amphiprotic and being a weak acid so it can safely be used in excess to clean up spills of unknown acidity/basicity...

    Answers To Difficult Questions

Catalysts can and often do involve themselves in chemical reactions (that is how they lower the activation energy, breaking bonds etc). The significant thing is that they are reformed in the end.

    Answers To Difficult Questions

Agreed, I think this is one of those cases where the simplest, most obvious answer is the correct answer. They showed the reforming of the chlorine radical for a reason and it fits with what the textbooks say (I've never seen it referred to as an initiator).

    UNSW Medicine Interviews

Hi all, I'm really hoping to get into medicine under the RSES at UNSW but it occured to me that I have not done any work experience in a clinic or hospital or practice! Will this likely hurt me in my interview and hurt my chances of getting in? Is all hope lost?

    Is this possible?

Wow thanks heaps for that, good explanation, but there are a few things that don't make sense to me. How is it possible to have a weighted conical pendulum rise above horizontal (I can imagine a sudden increase in rev/min would 'swing' it above the horizontal but why would it stay there)? Also...

    Is this possible?

I got this question from my ext. 2 book and am having major problems seeing how to solve it. Q: "If the number of revolutions per minute of a conical pendulum is increased from 75 to 80, show that the rise in the level of the bob is approximately 19.2mm" It seems like some piece of information...

    Getting in a year later?

Hi everyone, In NSW we apply for a university course through UAC at the end of year 12, but what if we don't get accepted into the courses of our preference? How do we try again next year. I know we get to keep our uai but do we apply through uac again and if so how? Thanks PS: I realise that...

    Uai

Those are some nice ranks and marks for the most part there! You could probably stand to move up a few ranks in English though. As a result I'm predicting 00.00 to about 00.05 ...sorry, I've just always wanted to say that. Wrong place wrong time I guess

    Scholarships and 'Gap Year'

Hi everyone! I'm currently in year 12 and am planning on having a 'gap year' next year to travel and earn some money so I am eligable for Austudy allowance. I would like to apply for scholarships and am wondering whether taking a gap year affects whether I am eligable for them? Also, do I apply...

    Math's problem killing me

This looks like a very interesting question...you've got me hooked now :P This piece of information " ii) Write out the first 3 values of x for which sin(2x-1)" seems incomplete Does it ask you to find the 3 values for which "sin(2x-1)=something"?
