Does anyone think that the Bachelor of Philosophy degree is worth it???

I am considering doing a BPhil degree. For those of you who don't know what this is, let me explain... The BPhil degree is research-focussed and is only open to high-ATAR (99+) students. You do all the units that you would do if you had chosen a BCom/BSc or whatever. The difference is that...

    Maths (Stats/data science/analytics) vs Medicine

Interesting perspective from an actual medical student. Thank you. Just a few Qs... -before you started uni, did you enjoy biology, anatomy and classes like that? How did you know whether you would like this sort of stuff, and did you actually end up enjoying the med degree? -What did you mean...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Oh ok. So that's one. Where are the "many other ways"? There is so much pressure to make the most of the "incredible opportunity and talent I have" (i.e. Getting a 99.90 ATAR). Not a day goes by without someone asking what I'm going to be doing (and I reply with maths) and their jaw drops and...

    Help! Life-changing university decision...

I understand what you're saying, but there's lots of pressure to make the most of the "incredible opportunity and talent I have" (i.e. Getting a 99.90 ATAR). Not a day goes by without someone asking what I'm going to be doing (and I reply with maths) and their jaw drops and they exclaim "DO...

    Maths (Stats/data science/analytics) vs Medicine

Fair point, but I'm sure that you'd begin to enjoy med work at least a little bit after a few years (i.e "get used to it"). Also, there's lots of pressure to make the most of the "incredible opportunity and talent I have" (i.e. Getting a 99.90 ATAR). All my family+friends (they aren't asian...

    Help! Life-changing university decision...

So with a Math&Stat major, which would be better as a second major: Computer Science or Finance or Economics?

    Help! Life-changing university decision...

Thanks for the informative reply. I really understand what you're talking about in your last paragraph. I really enjoy doing maths and data sciencey stuff, and am quite happy to spend a few hours learning it each day (thats that "spark" that you were talking about). However, its always hard to...

    Help! Life-changing university decision...

Are you in the data science field yourself? Also, I've been running searches on seek and can barely find any data science jobs for the smaller cities (only 3-4 in Adelaide/Perth), so thats why I'm unsure about whether I'll be "set".

    Maths (Stats/data science/analytics) vs Medicine

Isn't the actual studying portion of it only 7 years? Then the residences, internships, etc are paid, and you'd actually be working as a medical professional.

    Maths (Stats/data science/analytics) vs Medicine

Ok...but why? From what some of my relatives and friends have told me, all 3 reasons do apply to medicine careers, right? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but GPs can make 150k-250k, and specialists/surgeons can easily make up to 300k+. Also, there will always be a need for doctors, no matter what...

    Help! Life-changing university decision...

I'm going to uni next year, and originally, I wanted to get into data science or analytics, so my plan was to do Maths&Stats for undergrad then a Masters in Data Science (or maybe Statistics). The problem is, I'm really worried about the job prospects for data scientists (especially in a small...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

I hear countless other people say this too, but they never seem to give any concrete examples? Some Medical professionals who I know are earning $300,000. Heck, I've heard that some senior guys rake in $500,000+. For most other professions, the max ceiling is about $200k, and those salaries...
