What happens to your ATAR if you go to a top 20 school but rank last in a subject?

Re: What happens to your ATAR if you go to a top 20 school but rank last in a subject you can't drag your cohort down by doing badly in internals. it depends on how your cohort does in the HSC, and how you did in your other internal assessments. If you did OK in other assessments, and you...

    Band 6 Physics

make sure you understand every dotpoint. do past papers to pick up your weaknesses. help out your cohort and study together (I assume your internals are over).

    Can't decide what to drop!!!

99/98 and only 2nd is absurd. the person who state ranked 1st in bio last year got 96. and 100 in eco has never happened. schools use one of two methods to generate moderated assessment marks. they choose an arbitrary mean, usually based around the last cohort's hsc marks, and estimate the new...

    Not sure what to drop

14 units is far too much for year 12 Since you seem to be good at all your subjects, just drop the worst scaling one, SDD. If you do 4u, you'll have 10 units next year which is perfect since you'll already have 2u maths done. good luck.

    Subject Selection (14/15 Units)

It's OK to pick 15u initially year 11, you'll have a better idea of which subjects to drop! Just drop your least favourite subject(s) in term 1. You're correct, you shouldn't be doing more than 12U in yr12.

Which subjects should I take for year 12?

If you believe you can find the motivation/effort to study for Physics, I recommend that you go with the (much) better scaling option, Phys. However don't be afraid to listen to your heart if you believe there's no way around the problem of your teacher and you'll end up hating the subject...

    Is this a good combination?

It's hard to get a good scaled mark for standard since band 6s are extremely rare. If you want a high ATAR, go with advanced. Furthermore, you're better off having the option of dropping down to standard rather than moving up to advanced. Good choice of maths and sciences and languages since...

Is it wrong to take scaling into account when deciding my HSC subjects?

Scaling should definitely be one of your considerations, along with your personal interest in the subject. Don't hesitate to pick extra units in year 11, since you can easily drop the ones you don't like. Good luck :)

    Atar Estimate 99+ :)

JR students get their estimates directly from the school. Obvious troll, please stop.
