Does anyone practice magic for a hobby?

Just out of curiosity here guys! I'm not talking about "Magic: The Gathering". No, I mean like sleight of hand, The Prestige, David Copperfield, Sam Powers etc. Does anyone practice this subtle art of magic as a hobby?

    3.30 min speech

3.30 minutes is hardly anything... probably 400 - 500 words?

eng ext 2 students of 2010!

I know, aye! When I zone out in class, my mind drifts to EE2 stuff as well. Like, I'd be imagining playing back the lesson out of narrative sequence (Memento/Following style). It's pretty trippy.

Welcome & Roll Call - Class of 2010

Hey all! Subjects are in my signature and let's have a good HSC!

How many words in a 5 min speech?

Yeah, sure. Do what floats your boat. You have 1400 words though, so i would really be slashing and culling that speech. Look through it and keep your strongest points and just lose the others. Or otherwise, try and keep it as concise as possible. The focus is on Romulus and your criticism of...

eng ext 2 students of 2010!

Hey! Considering that I've been a maths guy all my life, I'd never imagine myself doing this course. But, yeah I'm doing a critical analysis and I've got my idea down pat (I hope). Although, I'm SLIGHTLY worrying at the moment because my school has set the viva-voce due for next Monday (yikes!)...

How many words in a 5 min speech?

A 5 min speech in my experience is about 750 - 800 words in my experience. Then again, that's the pace of how I speak. If you spoke fast, you might be able to cram in 900 words. Definitely don't go for over 1000 words. I've got pretty reasonable marks for 5 min speeches too. ( 17/20, 13/15)

    Subjects you Dropped/Picked up/ Changed?

Dropped Physics Picking up Ext. 2 Maths and Ext. 2 English. Gah, I hope it doesn't kill me.

Anyone doing both maths and english extensions together atm?

Doing both extensions is possible. I did both for this year and scored pretty decent-good marks in both. But, I will tell you now that doing both extensions with 14 units is going to kill you. I tried doing what you did (14 units with both extensions) but sooner or later, some of your subjects...

Hey Oscar! No, I didn't go to the final assembly today. But, I heard it was pretty sad though. I heard Rex was crying and it was pretty touching or something like that. :( Anyway, yeah I'm looking forward to holidays. Checked your profile, and congratulations for making it into the Physics...

    Best way of learning...?

Definitely do some writing and practice speaking. You seem to have got your listening and reading down pat, but you remember and understand it more when you actually apply it. Write some letters in Japanese to an imaginary pen friend in Japan or diary entries fully in Japanese. Better yet, get...

    choosing year 11's subjects!

Scaling wise, Physics. However, you gotta actually like the course you pick. Physics is mostly about forces, electricity, waves etc. Biology is about ecologies, Evolution, cells etc. However Physics is a much more mathematics based course, so if you're good at maths, Physics should be easier.

Koray, you're the one who told me sign up here. Why are you so surprised?

    choosing year 11's subjects!

Japanese Continuers you say? Well, it's a pretty decent course. If you love the subject, then great! Much more emphasis is placed on vocabulary and kanji (that's what I felt anyways). I would not recommend taking up Japanese Extension. I don't do it, but from what my Japanese teacher has been...

Are there English Advanced students who do not enjoy English?

Some people don't have a choice. My school only offers Advanced English.

    Australian Science Olympiads

Haha, well I'm doing Physics as well. It completely kicks ass compared to the syllabus. My teacher goes pretty fast through the stuff but it's awesome.

Asians on BoS...which are you better at...DotA or Mahjong

Bah... Asians these days. Seriously, what is wrong with Mahjong? It's a flipping awesome game! If you watch any of the old Hong Kong movies, you can see the supreme tact required in the game. Better than any DotA.
