Do our specific study areas in Rites have to be consistent ?

I mean, i know if you do Death and Bereavement for the Rite of Passage for one of your traditions you have to do it for the other one. But say, for Rites of Passage, my specific areas are Sacred Writing and Symbolism. Does the syllabus stipulate that i have to keep these two areas when I'm doing...

    RAW exemplar

http://www.boredofstudies.org/courses/english/std/2002_English_Standard_HSC_Exemplar_Q6_S1_BOS.pdf I wanted to bring this up anyway so ... What do you guys think of this response ? I think it's pretty weak. For Raw he mostly just re-tells the story. He describes the scenes from the book with...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

Yes, i agree, LOTS people HAVE put a lot of work into their instrument to do well in the course, but not ALL. LOTS of other people have put NO "hard" work into their instrument, and STILL do well in the course. Me and amnesious know, we're in classes of music 1 guitarists and bassist and...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

Useless my arse. It's a discussion. Just coz most of us are too stuck-up to admit being wrong doesn't mean it's not worthwild.

    Here's my rant, as promised...

I agree. This kid would have an overall better "talent" at physics. However, here is the difference: Physics has a syllabus. And not just a music or english syllabus thats broad, it has exact dot points (a lot of them too) of information you NEED to know in order to do well in the HSC. Even if...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

Hmmm, i agree with the whole scaling thing. What i think is utterly stupid is the way they deal with internal assessments. Teachers marking students assignments can vary so much it's not even funny. Someone from my school borrowed a friends isp whom got 20/20, yet he only got 60/100 ... just...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

I'm glad we agree on something. This goes back to what i was saying originally about why the aural aspect is important, and that a purely performance-based course wouldn't work for those reasons. Having the aural section there balances it out a lot i know, and that is partially what i was...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

I feel like a broken record ... ok, here's my point. Disregard the majority of music students and physics students, let's focus on the very top elite few in each subject. Music: some kid has been playing guitar for 10 years. He could simply pick 4 performances, already know them like the...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

You just proved my point. The HSC doesn't reward talent, it rewards hard work. OF course talent is a major factor in this, and in some cases (like music) it can be the ONLY factor, but it shouldn't be. You should have to work hard to get a good mark also, which, for a large part in music, you do...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

Many people have natural talent for music. Someone might have been playing guitar for 10 years ... they can do 4 perf and just play songs they've known for years and get 95% without hard practise or study. Meanwhile, whilst some people are naturally gifted at maths or science, a large amount...

What if one of my sups was the same as text 3 in section I?

I agree. But it's like someone with horrific spelling and punctuation - even though you can't get marked down for it (well i dont THINK you can) and it shouldn't matter if your response is good, it will still give an impression about you to the markers.

DO u rekon the prelim course was relevent for hsc?

No content you learn in year 11 will be in the year 12 course, and subquensely, the HSC. If it IS then you'll get re-taught it anyway, unless its something REALLY basic. So content-wise, no. BUT, in stuff like maths and sciences, it usually provides a good base to start your 12 learning from...

What if one of my sups was the same as text 3 in section I?

I don't think they can mark you down directly for doing it, BUT, as soon as they see you've used it they automatically think you're lazy and a sub-par student. I'm not saying you are, but thats what they'd think straight away, and i don't think its good for your markers to be thinking of you...

    Here's my rant, as promised...

psssh .... you brought up two points in your post: one about scaling, one about performance. I was commenting on the second point. Have you already forgotten all about that ? Anywho since you switched the subject, i agree with the scaling anyway. It's SOO much easier to get marks in music...

    Strictly Ballroom??

I don't know why you think you need to have a text which has the same themes as Ballroom Dancing ? It doesn't have to be about dancing, or even about the same themes (though sometimes it can work in your benefit for comparing texts), as longas it's a text which uses IMAGE to convey meaning. You...

    dicuss in section 3

It depends what your texts say. If all of them support the statement (which more or less every single journey text i saw does) then you say that ... otherwise how would you work the negative side into your essay ? It all had to relate to texts, you can't just add in negative points for no reason.

    Here's my rant, as promised...

The course is "Music", not "performance". We study music, we don't just focus on performance. This is school, not a TAFE course or something ... we have to STUDY the subject of music itself, that involves the concepts and stuff like that. I think it's great we have the opportunity to pick 3 of...

Minimum number of related texts we need

Hey, i tried looking through the Standard syllabus but i saw nothing for the minimum amount of supp. texts we need for the exam. Judging from previous HSC's, it looks like you need at least 2 for Journeys, at least 2 for Texts and Society (for me, Institution and Personal Response), and at least...

"The diversity of expression of Aboriginal belief systems & spirituality today"

That's what i thought, but the inclusion of the word "today" at the end put me off. If it was just "The diversity of expression of Aboriginal belief systems & spirituality" then yeah, i would know its talking about the different ways aboriginals express their culture - ie through dance, song...

"The diversity of expression of Aboriginal belief systems & spirituality today"

This dot point is giving me problems ... I have both Living Religion and the Macquarie RE guide and neither of them tell me much about this. Is this dot point referring to the range of Aboriginal beliefs in th current day, ie some Aboriginals intergrating Christian beliefs etc, or is it...
