Law students and their unwarranted ego.

A friend of mine from Uni has just landed a 4 year contract with WA legal aid. 55k, first year out, 65k 2nd, 75k 3rd, 4th year negotiable..... Not to mention the subsidized accommodation and relocation expenses...... Legal Aid shouldn't be looked down on, nor should the lawyers who work for it...

    Law textbooks

Yep, we used principles of contract. It wasn't bad i thought. If that casebook is by ellinghaus then we used it as well. Pretty good casebook. For more in depth contract stuff I found cheshire and firefoot's (i think, sp?) contract book pretty useuful.

    Exam Results - Implications

This may be privative means to get a seasonal clerkship but it worked for me! I simply went through the yellow pages and rang up firms. I basically said: "Hi my name is James, I've just finished my second year of law studies and was just wondering if your firm offered any seasonal clerkships?"...

    Exam Results - Implications

I got offered a summer clerkship today at a mid-sized country firm. They didn't even ask to see my results :). One of the directors did make a joke that anything above a 50 was wasted effort heh. I guess it's a different kettle of fish for the big six.

    Exam Results - Implications

The way I look at it, If I was choosing from a heap of graduates with Distinction or High Distinction averages, and a credit average student with three or four seasonal/vacation clerkships (with good references/referees) up his sleeve and a strong extra curricular activities list, I would by far...

    Unemployment after Graduating

It's not so much a nationwide scheme, but i know la trobe in bendigo is heavily focussed at producing rural/ community based pharmacists Ahh i have to plead ignorance here. I can only comment on Victoria where no graduate entry level pharmacy programs exist!

[Dilemma, dilemma: Dentistry, Optometry and Pharmacy] My insights - need advice.

With respect to con 3, I thought the pharmacy guild/fed govt said that it would not allow supermarket pharmacies within the next ten years (position being reviewed then)?

    Unemployment after Graduating

Increasing salaries fails to address the shortage.... More graduates are required for that. Consequently you either need to a) increase the number of positions at current unis or b) increase the number of schools.

    Unemployment after Graduating

Did it occur to you that perhaps the increase in pharmacy schools was a manifestation of the chronic shortage (demand if you will) for pharmacists? But then again that might weaken your argument….

    Law at La Trobe

Hi bjh68, I'm currently a second year science/laws student at La Trobe University Bendigo. Have to say I love the degree. Our lectures are via video conference from the Bundoora campus (so obviously we get exactly the same content as the bundoora students) and our tutors/seminar...
