    Tips/Tricks for Complex Numbers

I'd say the common mistakes are getting the negatives the wrong way :D Yeah it would depend on the types of questions.

    Tips/Tricks for Complex Numbers

Honestly you ask way to many questions about this, it's best that you wait and see when you start doing 4U math yourself instead of speculating about it.

How to think in extension 2 maths

Actually even in 2U math has these kinds of problems.....(the last questions of course) They just be like "prove this" without giving any hints.

How to think in extension 2 maths

The harder questions in Ext 1 encourage that sort of approach as well (maybe to distinguish between the Ext 2 peeps and "only" Ext 1 ) And by thinking critically, for example you might have to figure out the best method or the best formula/identities , you could end up actually getting an...

Calculus & Analysis Marathon & Questions

    Re: First Year Uni Calculus Marathon $ a) Let g(t) = \sqrt{1+t^4} \\ \\ \therefore f(x) = G(x^2+x) - G(2) \\ \\ f'(x) = (2x+1)g(x^2+x) - 0 = (2x+1) \sqrt{1+(x^2+x)^4} $ b) at $ \ \ f'(x) = 0 \ \ x = -\frac{1}{2} $it's a minimum point since the slope function goes from negative to positive...

What does 75~80 scale to in 3U maths

ehh.. it depends on the paper I guess, my year (2013) was apparently considered a tough paper, so like 78 would align to an E4

    Moment Generating Function

    $ For any $ \ \ 0<p<1 \ \ $and$ \ \ r \ \ $ a positive integer, the probability function $ \\ \\ f(x) = \binom{r+x+1}{x}p^r(1-p)^x \ \ \ x = 0,1,2 ... \\ \\ $defines a random variable X$ \\ \\ $Show that the moment generating function$ \ \ m_X(u) = \mathbb{E}(e^{ux}) = \\...

How to work faster in exam?

One advice is to skip the questions that you can't do straight away and get back to them later, this may sound obvious, but the issue is that the question could somehow "absorb" you while you're not really "warmed-up" in the beginning of the exam, which means you're working a bit slower than what...

    HSC 2016 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2016 4U Marathon Oh wait I was right, is the answer 4 \theta = 2k \pi $ Where k is an integer but 0 $ \\ \\ \theta = k \frac{\pi}{2} EDIT: This is because from the above equation the denominator 1-cis(\theta) can't be 0 which is why theta can't be 0, dammit how did I not see that?

    HSC 2016 MX2 Marathon (archive)

    Re: HSC 2016 4U Marathon I'm bored so here's how you do itttt $Consider$ \ \ 1 + cis(\theta) + cis(2 \theta) + cis(3 \theta) = 0 \\ \\ \frac{1-cis(4 \theta)}{1- cis(\theta)} = 0 \\ \\ $Equating the real parts implies that solving for $ \cos{3\theta} + \cos{2\theta} + \cos{\theta} + 1 = 0 $...

??? for Q 2 you use the double angle formula for both (tan 2theta), then you go through the tedious algebra to simplify to the RHS. (hint multiply top and bottom by (1-tan^2)(tan))
