99.9 ATAR Inner City Tutor: English, Maths, Chemistry, Latin, UMAT

Hi there, Want some tutoring? I offer one-on-one or group tutoring in English (up to Extension 1) Maths (up to Extension 2) Chemistry Latin (including Extension) UMAT I achieved 95+ in all of these subjects, with an internal top 10 ranking for each at my school. I also achieved NSW State...

    Chemistry or Biology?

Both. There are many useful concepts of both Chemistry and Biology which are used. Immunology and Anatomy aren't that biology based (and some people have said that they didn't go into that much depth about anatomy and immunology in the HSC and don't actually focus on medicine specifically but...

Med or Combined Law more difficult to get into?

I have no idea lol. :P Actually, for graduate med uni they don't care anything about your ATAR, only your uni scores. Gives people a fresh start.

Med or Combined Law more difficult to get into?

Actually... no. UNSW is currently undergraduate only. It has a competitive MedSci entry stream though. Graduate med is a whole another process: GPA, GAMSAT, Interview. You really can't transfer to a graduate med school, just apply.

Med or Combined Law more difficult to get into?

Over 98 ATAR and distinction or high credit average (I can't remember which) but yeah, it's pretty easy according to them.

Med or Combined Law more difficult to get into?

Actually, I'm not sure if UWS counts subject bonus points for the ATAR, nor any other universities in New South Wales. Bonus points do not apply to medicine either. (If you call being GWS bonus points, ok.) EAS does apply, as it does to Combined Law. The average ATAR for UWS is still 99 though...

How to recover from an assessment task..?

I started out at 50-something in English Advanced after my first assessment, but do well in the rest of your assessments and its possible to do well. I peaked at 5th =D

    best scaling subjects?

Hehe. I do Latin, and Latin Extension. :D But you do have to do well in them, even if you get band 6, it might not count because of the high quality of the candidature. (Try and get a hold of the 'All about your ATAR' booklet and it compares 96 in Latin and Geography. Geography comes out on...

    This cannot be right.

Subjects with higher scaling just mean that the quality of the candidature is high. The students doing Maths Extension 2 are most likely doing well in their other subjects, which forces the higher scaling. Also, I think that you might be getting your aligning mixed up with your scaling.

    This cannot be right.

No it necessarily does not, I mean more than 50% of people get over 90 in Latin but it scales so bad if you don't do well. 96 in Latin does not compare to 96 in Geography. Just saying, my friend got 93 in English Adv, 47 in EE1 and 47 in EE2 and English Advanced counted. Facts...

    This cannot be right.

I'm just saying, that in my case, and a couple of my friends cases, their English Advanced counted rather then their English Extensions. This is from UAC itself and our ATARs, which is more evidence than the tables. Also, your link is wrong. That's the percentage of students that get certain...

    This cannot be right.

This. Though, it must be said that scaling for English Ext is sort of bad in comparison to English Adv, 47(94) in EE1 is not better than 94 in English Advanced (It's not better than 93 even, not sure how low this goes down to but yeah)

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

UWS, as FreshOffTheBoat said, actually did have all the interviewees sign a non-disclosure statement before the interview. I like their reasoning about it being fairer for all the interviewees. UWS is 66% UMAT and 33% Interview.

MBBS at UNSW Vs. MBBS at USYD

The Scientia scholarship is much different to the USyd one (I think...don't quote me on this =p) because UNSW provides mentors for the students. I was talking to the scholarships lady at the Scientia luncheon about why it was restricted to just 2 students and she said that around three-quarters...

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

Mhmm. What Wooz said. Though I must rate UWS as the best interview experience. :):):)

How will you commute to UNSW?

Walking or busing or biking =D

    Medicine at UNSW and UWS

62 is basically the average across the 3 sections, so overall you might get 186 which will correlate to that overall score. The percentiles change every year so 64 overall was in 2009 97th percentile, but may be 95th depending on the way that ACER scales the UMAT. Percentiles mean how you did in...

    UNSW Med 'required' UAI/ATAR

71 Raw UMAT = 100th percentile which is not all that easy to get.
