    Half Yearly Results Thread

10/15 for english short response. Surprisingly good considering the average was 6. The english teachers are starting to worry.

    MX2 Atar Calculator Scailing

http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/2011_HSC_Table%20A3.pdf Their scaling is fairly similar, especially at the high end, but they aren't the same. That being said, when you convert that scaled mark to an ATAR you'd end up with more or less the same number.

    Half Yearly Results Thread

50/55 for legal which I'm very pleased with. I felt I was really underprepared for both topics, but especially family. Ended up getting 12/15 for crime MC, 14/15 for crime long response and 24/25 for family. Not sure about my rank, but I'd guess it'd be fairly good because nobody full marks for...

    Ready for School Tomorrow?

Our year advisor showed up on the morning assembly to say that she'd left the school and was teaching at penrith as of today. I'd heard rumours over the holidays, but it was still a pretty shitty start to the term. Got legal marks back first period and I did a lot better than i was expecting...

    Scholarships?!?!

Ahh yeah, my cousin lives in the mountains, went to a private school there and (i'm pretty sure) got EAS, a scholarship and a centrelink benefit. In the grand scheme of things it's not much, but it certainly makes a big difference, especially if you're not from an afluent family. Also, I don't...

    Scholarships?!?!

It's high, but they're both huge, $10k each iirc. I know there's lots of scholarships for primary education (especially if you're male), but I'm not sure about secondary. There's others, but a majority are for the so called "disadvantaged students" - people in rural areas, indigenous people...

Query on doing past paper questions

I agree with this entirely. I don't see the point of doing past papers not under exam conditions, because that's basically the same as working through a bunch of questions from a textbook (although I do realise that sometimes exam questions can be in a different style to textbook questions)...

    Ready for School Tomorrow?

    I haven't even done that.

    polynomials

    Use the triangle inequality.

    integration help?

Lots of the time wolframalpha uses some ridiculously long method that utilises stuff that's way beyond the HSC course. But I agree in that people should check their answer their first and then post here.

What time do you guys wake up for school?

Somewhere between 7 and 7.30 depending on how many times i hit snooze on my alarm. Vary rarely I'll have a morning class, which means I wake up at 6.30-7

    The multiple choice thread

Just out of curiosity, where are the practice questions the BOS have provided? I haven't been able to find them.

    Maths raw marks

Yep, BUT. It's important to remember that they're only an estimate. However, they're estimated from the raw marks of numerous people over the past 5 or so years, so they're reasonably accurate.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Either dead or pursuing a Phd.

If you could have any job in the world....

Astronaut. Preferably first man on mars. Either that or a physicist who actually makes a decent living.

    Tighter security during exams??!!

Just rat on the bastards. I realise it's easy to say that, but there's not much else you can do in that situation. Also, I'd tell the principal/deputy that your teacher's leaving the room during exams, because I'm pretty sure they're not meant to.

    Maths raw marks

Most subjects have around the same cutoff, according to the raw marks database posted somewhere on these forums, the approximate cutoffs are: English (Advanced) 77/100 Chemistry 72/100 Physics 76/100 Mathematics 94/120 = 78/100 Mathematics Extension 1 57/84 = 69/100 Mathematics Extension 2...

    Tighter security during exams??!!

That's like saying "As long as you don't have any child porn on your computer you shouldn't have a problem with the police constantly monitoring your computer" or "If you're not doing anything illegal you shouldn't have a problem with the government installing cameras in every room of your...

Just turned 18 with no work experience. Any tips on finding jobs and what type???????

Re: Just turned 18 with no work experience. Any tips on finding jobs and what type??? My pot-head friend got a job at woolies with no prior work experience and minimal extracurricular. I'm sure you'll be able to. That's also an option, I hear the pay's really good.
