Are you kidding? 4 marks for sketching an ellipse x^2/a^2 + y^2/b^2 = 1 (and of course stating the eccentricity, finding focii, directries and etc), in my opinion, is ... not difficult. And the proofs are pretty much all generic (eg. proving the focal property etc).

    Graphs

Well by definition, the cosec function has gaps in its domain (namely when sinx=0). So if f(x)=cosecx then sketching y=1/f(x) will mean that there would indeed be open circles at the x-intercepts as they are not included in the domain. Also talking about whether the cosec function is defined...

Fermi’s initial experimental observation of nuclear fission

Um, as stated, Fermi didn't actually observe the experiment... I think my teacher did say that it was the experiment he setup at the squash court... don't rely on that though, it's memory from last year and I haven't revised my notes.

I think that 2U maths should be compulsory. But this is only because English is compulsory, so yeah...

    Preliminary mathematics marathon

Well technically 'r' isn't the same as 'R' and 's' isn't the same as 'S'... Anyway, ignoring char cases... No of ways = (6*5*4*3) - (4 * 3 * 4C2 * 2!) = 216. New question: In a certain cricket club there are 15 players available for selection, including 2 Smith brothers, 3 Brown brothers and...

    Syllabus development

Personally I like the current HSC syllabuses for 2U-4U, I don't know why they should change it... but that's my opinion only I think :) Maybe some slight modifications would be good, but I don't think changing it majorly if that good of an idea.

What are people up to in terms of their topics finished?

Yes I know I was being sarcastic for the troll.

What are people up to in terms of their topics finished?

You should typically allow two terms of revision to ensure a good mark in the external HSC exams. Therefore you should've been finished by the end of Term 1. You will be serverely disadvantaged by losing this revision time. I guess you'll have to make up for it by working extra hard from now.

    Preliminary mathematics marathon

    Probably 3U.

what are the hardest topics in prelim ext1 maths

Not true. I hated conics, yet I liked 3U parametrics.

what are the hardest topics in prelim ext1 maths

The Extension 1 is easy. I liked all topics.

logarithmic and exponential functions - area help

Or you could've done Area rectangle - integral... but that'd require knowledge of integration by parts...

logarithmic and exponential functions - area help

    I'll assume that you mean the area between y=2, y=4, the curve and the y axis... y=lnx e^y=x Required area = \int_2^4e^ydy = e^4-e^2 = 47.20909393... units^2

    SHM - Sign Taking

This is wrong. You need to take the sign that the initial conditions given. ie, if velocity was initially in a positive direction, then you take the +ve case. This is also wrong. Max acceleration occurs at the end points of motion.

    unusual graph-please help

    That's a very minor point.

    Syllabus development

Teacher incompentancy is the main reason why that doesn't happen. Also another problem with the old Physics course was that they ran out of questions to ask. They asked the same thing in three difference ways in the final HSC exams in the 20 or so years that it ran.

    unusual graph-please help

One approach is long division, which is in Extension 1 polynomials.
