I'm inclined to agree. Teaching isn't something you go into half-heartedly. And even then, new teacher standards, and accreditation and selection procedures will sort you out even before you make it into a classroom. The barest minimum to teach is a one-year DipEd, but even these are on the way...

UNSW tries to squish too much into four years. Most end up staying a fifth year to finish majors anyway. I think USyd does a more thorough job personally. Being a five-year trained teacher also means you start one pay scale higher than a four-year trained teacher on your first year out.
