    essay timing

Wow, that's surprising quick. But I guess at the end of the day, it all comes to practice, writing style (cursive tends to be a bit faster than standard) and writing size as well

    English Paper 1 Predictions/Thoughts

You may want to gather a few practice Common Module questions and try to write topic sentences and an introduction specific to any question (two of the most important things a marker will look for). If you are confident in writing within the time limit, then you could even type these things out...

Could I have a list of things allowed in the HSC

If you are doing a language, you may be able to use a dictionary, but note if you bring your own one, it will be subject to investigation before the exam (to make sure you aren't trying to cheat or conceal any notes in it).

    what even is this q

It may sound straightforward, but just take each line at a time and it makes it much easier. After drawing a Cartesian plane, map out your intercepts (if there are any), put a dotted line for any boundaries which exist (so for part c, there is a boundary at x = 1 where the derivative changes...

Feedback for my common mod essay please since my teacher hasn't checked my essay since early this year!

Not sure why, but reading this brings about PTSD for me, having done 1984 as well.

Is it wise to plan responses during your writing time?

I'm not too sure if the marker will look at your plan or not. After all, the 20 marks is solely for the essay. Whether you plan or don't plan or even draw a picture (extreme example), I'm pretty sure they only mark the essay while discounting the plan (unless someone else has other information...

    English Paper 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I have a feeling if anything, Module B and Common will have extracts while Module A won't, just because for Module A, there's 2 prescribed texts you have to analyse. I think Module B is more common (if you are doing Shakespeare, especially), but I'm only speaking from experience as the 2020 HSC...

    technique?

The only technique I could find which somewhat resembles the image above is steganography, which is when information is 'concealed' or 'hidden' within the bigger picture. So like at first, you may notice the images or the word Newtown, but after a closer inspection, you will notice the other...

Is it wise to plan responses during your writing time?

I'd also add that for Paper 1 short answer questions, I'm sure you will do this, but try not to just read the texts for the sake of it. I know you can't have anything in your hands, but make a mental cue of any techniques you find, what the texts are about, and maybe what style/perspective the...

    reducing exam anxiety

I think it's definitely common to not have to spend the same amount of hours once you reach the end before exams start, just because most students tend to just revise, go over notes or maybe try a few practice papers (without doing too much intense study).

    Good Luck to English Studies

Let's hope that he (or anyone else doing English Studies for that matter) is able to beat an 85.55 ATAR and just keep increasing the potential boundaries for English Studies students. Specific to @checkmyworkplease, as long as the hard work and perseverance is put in, I have no doubt about his...

HSC starts in a week… Now in a day

I can imagine after every exam (starting with tomorrow), there will be a big influx of messages about how the exam was, which I'm certain happens every year (whichever thread or threads it happens on)

    english

As I mentioned on a different thread (I think the general discussion one), I would think most people, from the 90 minutes given, may spend a bit more time on the short answer questions (maybe a 50/40 split), just because they are questions you would have never seen before, and reading a brand...

Sleep patterns & Plan of attacks

It feels so weird that exactly one year ago, I was studying for my last exam (Chemistry), yet this year is studying for English. Guess that's what happens when Covid decided to take over

    Uni

Definitely helpful as well to talk to any friends you have in uni (preferably a few who are doing different courses) to get a better understanding of what they entail and which of them sounds like something you can envision a career in, at the end of the day. As quickoats mentioned, that's the...

    English idea

Yh, because it won't be looked at by the markers
  17. icycledough

    trick to improve writing speed

That's perfect for Paper 1 and Paper 2 (traditionally, the short answer questions for Paper 1 may take a bit longer as it's the first time you would have come across it, whereas with your essay, you would have gone through it many times before)

how many techniques in short answer

I think this general rule can apply for questions up to 5 marks, but once you get questions which are 7 or 8 marks, it kind of becomes a condensed essay. So you won't need to find 7 techniques for an 8 marker (just because there might not be that many), but your analysis has to be much more...

    screwed myself over for maths

Extension 1 students do both advanced and extension 1 Extension 2 students do extension 1 and 2 (they may do 2 unit in Year 11 if they are accelerating, but it won't count to their ATAR)

Pre HSC State/ Post ATAR state

It is very common for students to make instant changes on what they want to do in university, as while most students will have their dream course set in stone, for a lot of people, it's a lot of research, reading and talking to uni students themselves before being confident on what they want to...
