Same question for English

Generally, you take the extension 2 subjects (Mathematics and English) in year 12 alongside the extension 1 counterpart. Some people may take it earlier (MX2) but that is generally under special circumstances only.

Oh so does that make those two subjects (Ext 1 & 2) together 2 units or?

2 units each yes for mathematics, English is 2 (ADV) + 1 (ext1) + 1 (ext2)

Huhhhhh okay wait sorry I want to clarify, so does that mean Math is 4 units? as in Ext 1(2units) and Ext 2 (2units),
and English is also 4 from Adv being 2units +Ext 1 (1units) + Ext 2(1units)?

So would a person doing Maths and/or Eng Ext 2, do the Adv + Ext 1 subjects in conjunction in Year 12?

sorry sorry sorry

First para would be correct. For English adv counts, for maths it doesn’t.

for math in year 11 u take ext 1 + adv classes
year 12 u take ext 2 + ext 1 + adv classes, but you’re only required to do ext 1 and ext 2 assessments
similarly with hsc exams you don’t have to sit the adv exam, only ext 1 and 2
ext 1 will also count as a 2 unit subject, and ext 2 will as well

Ohh okay, so adv doesn't count towards my ATAR even tho I go to the classes? Do you HAVE to take Adv classes or is it recommended?

at my school the advanced content was taught in the ext 1 classes, so basically you didn’t have a choice and had to learn the adv content. it’s prob different at each school tho, id recommend still learning the advanced content because they can ask related stuff in ext 1 especially. since u don’t take adv assessments it won’t count towards your atar
