i go to a private, 200 rank school, and im thinking about moving to selective school to join a different environment (cus i dont rly like my school) and try take advantage of the school rank scaling. within my cohort, i would probably consider my rank in the middle but my semester 2 report came with two As and the rest Bs, and i'm in the highest maths class for my grade. im not really a top rank in my school, but i am confident that this year i can do well in terms of my marks. so would it be worth if i do all this and move to a selective school next year? [most likely trying for girraween, penrith and fort street]

It is still worth it to take the test imo, even if you think you can do well, being in a selective high school, especially a high ranking one can give you a lot of comfort because even if you do worse than you expected, your cohort can end up pulling you up in internal marks. To be in a comprehensive high school and confident about getting b6, you need to be at least 1st or second in the courses that you are doing. But, if you have doubts you should take the test anyways and decide later, you can always reject the offer. The other thing I would say is do you mean yr 10 going into yr 11? I don't think there's an exam to take in yr 11 to get into yr 12.

Yes it is 100% worth it. I did it last year and I'll be transferring from a rank ~400 school to top 30. Try to get majority A's in your reports and prepare for the HAST as its the most important part.

totally worth giving the entrance exam a shot.

i would advise against going to penrith as a y11 transfer because they have entrance exams into chemistry, physics, extension 1 eng, extension 1 maths and other high scaling subjects. the process is biased against transfers so chances are if you make it in year 11 you risk not having entry into these courses and as a result you can't do extension 2 courses in year 12 as well. if you don't mind taking that chance i would still apply for penrith, although I must say those high scaling subjects will help you "take advantage of the school ranking" more than the others because even if you are bad at them, there are smart people that will drag you up with them.

if you are currently from a private school, what is stopping you from applying to other high ranking private schools? private schools have hugely outperformed the selective schools you are applying for and if the cost is a problem, a lot of them have a scholarship system which reduces the fees i believe (kind of like selective). they also give you more opportunities (a lot more people in private schools get into prestigious uni courses and go overseas to study - some of these schools have ties with organisations and external tutoring places too).
