Bond University was created by the Bond University Act of the Queensland Parliament in April 1987. The Act prescribed the responsibilities of the university and established the Council of Bond University, which also acts as the Board of Bond University Limited (a company limited by guarantee).

In 1999, Bond University purchased through its own resources the freehold of its purpose-built campus. Since securing ownership of its campus, Bond University has begun a process of controlled growth. Teaching began at the Robina campus in May 1989 with 322 students. The current student enrolment is just above 2000. The university is Australian in character and international in perspective, with students more than 45 nations representing nearly 50 per cent of the student body.

Bond University offers personalised tuition and is committed to maintaining a ratio of equivalent full-time students to academic staff of no more than 10 to one. The controlled growth mentioned above aims to increase student numbers to around 2500 and expand the university’s education base. Bond University plans to remain always small enough to fulfil its commitment to personalised education.

Courses are offered at bachelor, honours, graduate diploma, masters and doctoral level, through the Schools of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, Information Technology and Law., plus the Institute of Health Sciences, Entry to programs is available in January, May or September, as the university operates a three-semester academic year.

James Cook University is Australia’s leading tropical research University. The University takes its name from the eighteenth century English navigator and explorer, James Cook. Cook’s epic voyages in the southern hemisphere contributed significantly to the world of science. The University was proclaimed in Townsville on April 20, 1970.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s premier learning and research institutions. One of Australia’s largest universities, Queensland University of Technology provides courses which are highly relevant to employment, and applies its expertise to solving real problems in industry and the community.

It is the major provider of bachelor graduates into full-time jobs in the nation and, in Queensland, it is the university of first choice for undergraduate applicants.

Links with industry are an important part of the QUT tradition. While the university was founded in 1989, its predecessor institutions served the needs of Queensland industry for 140 years.

With 39,000 students, including 4500 from overseas, QUT has three Brisbane campuses at Gardens Point in the CBD, Kelvin Grove and Carseldine in the northern suburbs, and a study centre at Caboolture. At Kelvin Grove, an innovative urban village development will integrate the campus with the community. The QUT Creative Industries Precinct and a major Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation will be part of the Kelvin Grove Urban Village, along with residential and retail development.

QUT offers academic programs from bachelor degree to PhD in these broad disciplines: Built Environment and Engineering, Business, Creative Industries, Education, Health, Humanities and Human Services, Information Technology, Law, and Science. USQ began its existence 32 years ago as an Institute of Technology and, later, as a College of Advanced Education. It was redesignated as a University from 1990 without amalgamating with any other university.

The establishment of University of the Sunshine Coast in 1996 created the first public university on a greenfield site in Australia for 23 years. Mooloolah River National Park adjoins the University’s 100 hectare site. Wild kangaroos reside on campus, and are recognised as a symbol of the University’s stance on environmental sustainability.

The University was founded to service the needs of the Sunshine Coast community, one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. More than 500 students were enrolled at the University when it opened in February 1996, and now in its seventh year of operation, the Sippy Downs campus accommodates over 3 000 students, 400 staff, and 270 international students from 18 countries.

The University’s charter is to provide Sunshine Coast residents access to higher education. One third of students are the first in their family to attend a university, and there is a high proportion of mature aged students at the University.

The student population size ensures personal attention and a focus on student support. Graduates have recognised the benefits of such a learning environment, giving their experience at University of the Sunshine Coast a five-star rating 1.
