Americian -241 is used in smoke detectors as it produces alpha radiation which ionises air and is detected by a device. When smoke comes near the smoke detector the alpha particles ionises the differently with the smoke and this is detected by the device and the alarm goes off.

I look at it like this; validity is how valid the result is, so is it close to what the correct answer is, for example the heat of combustion, is the heat of combustion close to the known value. Reliability is how reliable your experiment is and it becomes more reliable when you repeat it...

how did you get that mass, I got 6.699x10^-27 (4sig. fig.) by adding the mass of the extra neutron??

But you do not have the mass of the binding energy between them.

Are the answers by any chance 1.987 u mass defect and 1.7883x10^17 J?? oops forgot to use amu sorry sorry wrong equation is the energy released 1850.89 MeV
