At my school maths is pretty good but we can't seem to hold down a physics or chem teacher lmao. I'm at a selective school that has to put a 2 class cap on physics and 3 on chem (we have a 4 class demand in both subjects) bc we don't have enough teachers 😭😭

ikr it's actually so stupid

like how it works is all throughout years 9 and 10 (so for a lot of people this is from when you're age 13) each assessment task counts a little bit towards your eligibility for the course (kinda like the hsc funnily enough except its just to do the course, not to get a final mark)
and then you have an entrance exam sometime in year 10
and all this determines whether you can get in, and finally around term 3 they say who got in
but then there's more...
when the results are released in term 3 they have the first round of offers and within two weeks you have to hand a form back to the science faculty saying either YES/NO that you want to do the course
and for those who say no offers are given to the next round of people (theres like a reserve list but you don't know where you are on it) and so on until all the spots are filled (a bit like getting into a selective school)
annoying thing is for people who are like "i wanna do (for example) music 1 for my HSC but if that clashes with another subject I wanna do chemistry" then they can't put it down as a reserve at all
because you have to say YES/NO before you even choose your subjects, let alone get them back
so a fair few of my friends have ended up with subjects they hate because of this
its a sucky system

(anyway end of rant lmfao)

don't you guys like pay attention in class.. use edrolo and stuff.. why do u need sm tutoring what 😭
math: pace is way too slow (could probs finish the whole hsc syllabus in '23 if i did more i've self learnt a lot idk why)
eng: yap (therefore, self study/beg friends for help 🤩/compare writing to exemplar/fall asleep & wake up to see how shit my writing is)
sci: unqualified teacher (actually need time to digest things properly and teacher skips out on a lot of things – also can NOT understand anything said; the rest of the class dgaf either)
econ: yap (i resource my way through it, no tutor bcz econ tutoring is weird; only good teachers are leaving/teaching diff subjects and DOING A CLASS CHANGE IN YEAR 12)
other subjects i pay attention to because good teacher

tbh it's been the same since jnr yrs and i thought i might get like the half decent teachers but it is what it is womp womp
i could self learn it (maybe) but i feel reassured by doing it

no way i think we go to the same school lol

in case we don't my school does the exact same thing for chem and physics and their justification is that by restricting the number of classes and picking the "smartest" kids the course's cohort with have better results on average. but its 100% going to bite them in the ass bc my science faculty makes the stupidest exams, so much so that most people don't have consistent marks. so if i drop a 85 on one exam the next mark could even be a 60.

and don't even get me started on how disorganised the teachers are, like why are you teaching 2 classes out of 6 a topic for a couple lessons straight and teaching a bootleg version of the same topic in one lesson to the other classes??? there's a reason why our grades averages are always like 60 percent in science bro you guys just suck ass

omg literally, and then that means the exams don't reflect mmost of the content taught in the classes because it feels like they're teaching all the classes a different syllabus or smth because of how different all the lessons are

its actually so stupid
