Re: MATH1131 help thread

If I use u = 1 + root(x)...

x = (u-1)^2
dx = 2u-2

Then putting into the original thing, integrate (2u-2)/u...

can someone take it from here and finish it off? I get very close to the answer but don't get it, I think because I'm doing incorrect algebra after that last step ^.

Re: MATH1131 help thread

Okay soz I'm still very confused,

For this one...

integrate (1-x)/(1+x)^3 dx

So I make u = 1+x, du = dx, x = u-1

so it becomes

(2-u) / u^3 du

and now what do I do? If I'm on the right track that is.

Re: MATH1131 help thread

Does anyone know the mark format of the final exam, 1131?

There's 3 questions it seems from past papers, are they all of equal value? (why don't they show what each question is worth?)

Re: MATH1131 help thread

1024*e^(-5pi/3) + 1024*e^(5pi/3)

How do you turn that into cos, I get you can go, = 1024 (e^(5pi/3) + e^(-5pi/3)). Now what.

I recall there's a definition for it somewhere but cannot find it, and if it exists do we have to memorise it (well I guess obviously if it's in this q).

2012 paper, e^itheta=cos(theta)+isin(theta)

(And I think you forgot to type the i's in the exponents.)

Implicit differentiation...

x^2 - 5xsiny + y^2 = 4

MATH1131 help thread

How should I go about doing 1 a)
Just go like point+t(vector of line)

So remember <2,5> + t<1,2> so what this means is that the line L contains the point <2,5> and is parallel to <1,2>

Are you sure it's three and not four

Haha damn, can you tell I was only up to 2011 past papers when I asked that (they had only 3 questions).

But yeah I do mean that, q still stands.

And thanks for the working out.

I have no idea why the question got deleted but to expand on this.

Here, we have a=[1;1], t=[1;2], c=[2;5]
