How hard will Physics get in yr 12? (2 Viewers)

Hey, guys so i'm an average student in physics in my cohort, rank 30/80 and do pretty bad in exams but great in assignments and in class practicals. I'm beginning to worry that if my physics doesn't improve, it will affect me in year 12 and so i've really begun to study and revise. My in class exam average was around 50-60%, whereas my assignment marks are always over 80%. I'm pretty poor at Moving About, and am alright with waves, I am excellent in cosmic engine. So, any advice on how to improve exam marks and does anyone have any notes they would share? thx

Well luckily in HSC you won't need moving about too much (just the equations of motion you will need).

Waves is something you will most likely want to be ok-ish at.

Cosmic engine you'll also need to be ok with.

Electricity in the home you should be familiar a little, but its not too necessary.

HSC Physics is completely different any way. You will need a few basic things but by basic I mean you could be only just getting above 50% in prelim and still do ok in HSC (low band 5).

Its in uni where the prelim knowledge will be much more helpful.

For some reason, I found the prelim course harder than the hsc course. Idk, the prelim course felt ambiguous whereas the hsc is straight forward but doubled the content, so you have tonnes to memorise. You can get away with not understanding some stuff now but the top students are the ones who really understood it

Honestly prelim course was much better in that there was less to rote.

But stuff in HSC course was more interesting.

imo; hsc was much better than prelim because there was a bit more "maths" to it like projectile motion and a few more equations to apply rather than memorizing what some scientist did

To be honest, there's about the same amount/level of maths and it's not harder - about the same difficulty all round.

HSC is easier than prelim but more content, that's pretty much the big difference. You don't really need that much of Electrical Energy in the Home except for basic knowledge of right hand rules, and magnetic fields– that links to HSC motors and generators. Moving About is linked to Space (projectile motion) so I guess a general idea of the calculations is important, but once again nothing substantial. The World Communicates is probably the most irrelevant topic, and the Cosmic Engine is useful depending on your option (if you are doing astrophysics, definitely work on it).

In a nutshell, know the basic concepts and formulae, but none of the actual rote learning bits are in the HSC course.

I'm disappointed that other than basics of EMR, the world communicates is not needed for much reference in anything else.

Honestly that was one of my favourite topics and I reckon the doppler effect should have been introduced a bit more HSC too (the calculations and stuff are not that difficult but are good fundamentals to those who want to understand relativity a bit more and is quite applicable to real life).

By far the world communicates was my favourite prelim module, and was definitely much more interesting than space (space was so....yawn).

Why I do elec ------> I've been learning the same stuff about space exploration and what not for like 10 years (its probably the first time I ever got into physics).

Needless to say HSC module did not have the depth it should have so it was indeed....yawn.

There's a lot better stuff about space than what we learnt, but still its more rote stuff.

But yeah its stuff like this, and the fact that I only liked waves and oscillations for phys this sem (mechanics I found a bit boring, same as other stuff, rest is history), which is why I indeed now know that I am much better off with my current choice than other engineering disciplines.

Oh and bits and pieces of I2I (like 1/4 of it only lol).

Practically nothing I'm aware of.

Only difference is......

I have no clue they should be exactly the same.

They are both supposed to be equivalent on the handbook.

If you do 1111 next sem, you can do 2141 next year

someone said it is like phys1121 and 1131; they are the "same" course but in the end the exam is harder and there are a few more challenging pracs and what not. tbh; i am not looking forward to MINE1010, since it is in online format and my timetable looks practically empty for an engineering student
