Can Labor win the 2016 federal election?
John Howard warns Liberals frail Labor will rise again

Bill Shorten's beleaguered Labor MPs should not despair at being banished to the electoral wilderness, says no lesser authority on Australian politics than Labor's arch-enemy, John Winston Howard.
The fiercely partisan former Liberal prime minister said Labor would bounce back.
He said "Australia's oldest political party" should take heed from history noting that even after the electoral debacle of 1975 when Gough Whitlam's shambolic government was bundled out in a landslide of record proportions, a new Labor state government, led by Neville Wran, was elected in the largest state of NSW within six months.

"His narrow win in May 1976, followed by landslide victories in 1978 and 1981, not only revived Labor spirits but demoralised the New South Wales Liberals," Mr Howard said delivering the 2013 Dean Jeansch Lecture at Adelaide's Flinders University on Tuesday evening.
"The moral of this story is simple: never underestimate the recuperative powers of either of Australia's major political parties."
The unrivalled elder statesman and hero of the Liberal Party, Mr Howard is equally reviled on the political left both for his electoral success in winning four federal elections on the trot, and for a series of uncompromising policies including his stance on immigration and asylum seekers.
While Labor can take heart from Mr Howard's upbeat assessment, the 74-year-old was actually sending a warning to his own party as it embarks on a golden period.
Having just won through federally and with conservatives governments safely installed in all but the two smallest states (Tasmania and SA), Liberals are confident of bagging the fabled clean-sweep before too long: wall-to-wall conservative governments in all states and nationally.
The Labor governments in SA and Tasmania are under immense pressure and both are expected to get the chop when they next seek the voters' verdict.
Mr Howard said Labor's clean-sweep at the beginning of the Rudd period, which he described as "the dismal landscape" had begun breaking down quickly and within six years was almost completely gone.
The same therefore could happen to the Coalition parties.
Mr Howard even acknowledged that Labor's new leadership ballots involving members had played a useful role in restoring hope in ALP supporters who would have been "dismayed" at their party's leadership wars.
"To be consulted about who the next leader should be would have given them a reason to think about the future, rather than brood about the past, and a sense of relevance," he said.
"That having been said, I believe the system adopted by Labor is a long-term mistake, and I fervently hope that the Liberal Party will not be tempted to mimic it.
"In a parliamentary system, the most important relationship a party leader has is with those who he or she immediately leads, namely their parliamentary colleagues ... power in a political party should be pyramid like. The mass membership should pick the parliamentary candidates; they in turn should elect the leader. The shareholders elect the board of a company; the board chooses the CEO."

Most elections are predictable. The thing to look for is that governments usually get returned. At the last 25 elections before the 2013 federal election since 1949, the incumbent government has been returned in 19 of them. You have to remember that winning political parties get 50-54 per cent of the 2 Party preferred votes. The losing party will be in opposition, even if they got 45-50 per cent of the voters voted for them. For example Kevin Rudd won 52.7 per cent of the vote in 2007. John Howard won 52.74 in 2004 and 50.95 in 2001. What kind of swing can we expect in the 2016 federal election?

In 1996 ALP lost government with 5 per cent swing to the LNP.
In 1998 LNP was returned with a 4.1 per cent swing against the party.
In 2001 LNP was returned with 2.01 per cent swing to LNP.
In 2004 LNP was returned with 1.79 per cent swing for the party.
In 2007 LNP lost government with 5.44 per cent swing against the LNP
In 2010 ALP was returned with a 2.58 per cent swing against the ALP
In 2013 ALP lost government with a 3.6 per cent swing against the ALP.

The result that I predict as of 2/11/13 for the 2016 federal is a 2.5 swing to the LNP. This is backed up by the latest Newspoll which shows a LNP 2PP vote of 56 per cent, which would be the greatest victory for a political party over the past thirty years

Nielsen opinion poll suggests that Labor would win the election if it were held now as of 26/11/13.

I predict if an election were held now it would be a hung parliament like the 2010 federal election.

Tony Abbott's 2014 federal budget is built on lies, twisted priorities and broken promises. Tony Abbott is attacking the universality of Medicare and creating an under class in Australian society. Labor by contrast believes that your health should be based on your medicare card not your credit card. Your health should not be determined by your wealth.

A New wave of welfare reform that could force people off dozens of benefits is being prepared as the Abbott government seeks to simplify almost $80 billion in annual outlays.
Inflaming the dispute over tough budget cuts, Tony Abbott and senior ministers are canvassing further ways to cancel or reduce payments as they express frustration at the number of benefits. The government is aiming to sharpen the political row over welfare by releasing confidential advice within weeks to highlight the complexity of the system and the looming burden on taxpayers.

Tony Abbott is taking a wrecking ball to the welfare system and attacking our way of life which gives dignity to those in need. Tony Abbott has utter contempt for the vulnerable Australians. Hands off our medicare and welfare system Mr Abbott!

Malcolm Turnbull is courting the support of Clive Palmer (Palmer United Party- PUP) to get the budget through the Senate. The PUP, Greens and Labor Senators are united in their mission to defend Australia from a wrecking ball on the New Australian Settlement- regarding the role of government in a mixed market economy such as welfare rights. Tony Abbott is like the tyrant Gaddafi who said "my people love me" only to see a peoples revolt that liberalized Libyan society and executed Gaddafi. A peoples revolt is underway in Australia against the Abbott government. It is time we started the process of kicking out this Coalition mob. Strength through unity and unity through strength.

Malcolm Turnbull is positioning himself for the Liberal leadership and the Prime Ministership of Australia. Malcolm Turnbull is like Lady Macbeth "out out foul spot" but he said it and he will be judged by it. Tony Abbott is a one term wonder. Malcolm Turnbull has started the process of the destabilisation of the Abbott leadership.

No Labor still have a lot of brand management to deal with before they can be a contender

Honestly, majority of Australias would agree that Liberal would be better than Labor. They are hoping they can reduce the publicity on the budget and move on

Do you think these welfare reforms could affect your ability to fraudulently claim the DSP?
