Time to try something new for the UTS section! This thread serves as a general discussion thread for UTS students. Please keep all the miscellaneous and off-topic conversation here as well as comments/queries/observations that don't warrant a new thread. While posts that would generally be considered spam elsewhere are tolerated in this thread, please note that this is not a substitute for Non-School.

Np lol. So camp 1 is IT, Electrical and ICT students this year? Last year we were up second. All i can say is bring mosquito repellent, and although it was good fun - don't have high expectations for the actual place you will be staying =P

Does the place vary each year or stay the same?

Camp 1 is IT, Biomedical, Electrical, ICT and Innovation this year. Looks like they moved a large bunch of eng with IT. The note really emphasises the mosquito repellent as well.

It's a little unfortunate because last year atleast they mixed Eng and IT students in groups and you never see the BscIT or BIT friends in classes after camp. I havent come across an innovation student yet tbh, i guess they just group them with whatever camp that particular year. Biomedical major in Engineering is new for this year - looks pretty interesting actually.

I don't think first year IT and Eng have any classes together. :( I think in 2nd year I do one or two subjects in the Eng faculty so hopefully I'll see some Eng people there.

Possibly. There are some strange fragmented subjects. ICT Eng students do Programming Fundamentals as well (at same time as Busy Biscuits - i.e. Business/BscIT students lol) but i hear a few years back there were two identical subjects with seperate names for engineers and IT students. That is still the case for Network Fundamentals (ICT Eng) and Networking Essentials (IT).

But yeah, you probably will be doing Applications Programming with a tonne of ICT Engineers in first sem of second year depending on your major.

Re: General UTS Chit Chat

Hey iRuler bro, i can't find your other post but somewhere you said for a B Business degree that you had the option of either 4 options in terms of Major + Sub-major/electives etc.

One of the options you listed was

Major + 8 Electives units

However, this isn't anywhere on the UTS B Business Handbook as an option. Although it also doesn't specify that a sub-major is compulsory. The reason i ask this is because i've just transferred over from MACQ (convenience + work + GPA reset purposes) and i don't want a few of my electives going to waste. Is there any way you can apply for a 'custom stream' or some other type of 'exemption'. I mean the double degree kunce don't have to do electives or sub-majors so why should a sub-major be compulsory anyway ;| Your post gave me some hope but now i'm confused. :(

Received the invoice but unsure on how to proceed. Do we have to do anything if we want our course fees to be placed on HECS?

Have you submitted a HECS-HELP form and said you wanted to put it all on HECS when asked during enrolment?

(Do BITs get HECS actually?)

Yes, I filled that out when I enrolled.

BITs get the money in regular deposits and decide what to do with it.

Well i believe the fees are automatically deferred to HECS if you havent paid them by the census date and are eligible. I didnt have to do anything besides filling the form in and i think i chose HECS in some drop down box during enrolment.
