I'm sick of silly people who don't take the second to actually read a tag. The first thing I do when a customer says "The price is wrong", I whip out a spare orange ticket and say "Was it one of these?".

It pains me so much.

i do like how doing a price enquiry on those items gives you two different prices, normal and loyalty. i always do that before calling someone to check on the shelf now.

does every one have the banana stickers now for earn and learn? i assume there some sort of code...?

also, is it possible to manually put in the weight for produce on registers without scales?

and whats everyones opinion on the new everyday rewards only specials? im finding it incredibly irritating to have to explain every 10 minutes when customers get annoyed and start claiming ""false advertising". hmm, maybe if they learnt how to read...

as for famous people, ive served kitty flanagan and julia morris :D
others in my store have served guy sebastian, random footy players (i dont follow so idc to remember), people from the renovators and jack vidgen and his mum
the bananas are just a marker of every 10 stickers (same as the red apples, etc.). it just makes it easier when having to hand out the stickers with quantities over 10. as for the produce without scales thing i can't remember off the top of my head. i think you can for refunds but not for purchases.

i ask for their card at the end like normal, but don't mention the specials unless they actually ask.


i also like how they don't need to be registered (unlike for the wow mobile credit etc) so you can just use a random temp card. but then they don't get the petrol voucher unless they keep it.

but yeah, agree with your first line, we put the tickets up. the onus is on them to read them, if they want the cheaper prices.

I don't think it is an aduit, because all my managers trust me to have that level (It isn't a supervisors code)

When I say it works for manangers, say you code if FDD, and you type it in. You'll see your name appear. That happens for managers, not for me :(

Hopefully it is a register issue

Managers would definately be able to access all checkout banks in the store. They'd have to. What area of the store was this register again? I reckon you should tell them that it won't let you sign on to that register, and ask if there's something wrong with it. They'd be able to fix it for you :)

If an operator calls me over because a customer is disputing a price during the transaction and its a EDR special, I'll give the customer a card, tell them to take it home, read the info and if they are interested keep it and use it cause they'll need it to get the specials.!
I agree, I cbf'ed explaining to everyone about how "oh, you might have gotten a special with that". If they ask, sure I'll tell them about it, but I bet everyone is sick of hearing my bland, boring, unenthusiastic voice when explaining the benefits of an EDR card. I also reckon they need to change the specials on that a bit more often.

Speaking of Everyday Rewards cards, after working today, I believe that I can effectively judge a customer based on whether they swipe the card themselves or not. If they swipe it themselves (especially when I am holding my hand out, waiting to grab it), they are 83% likely to be someone who also eyeballs the price screen for any errors, and 96% likely to shriek excitedly if a product has even the slightest possibility of becoming a scanning policy. They are also 100% likely to be someone who asks me to give them their Earn and Learn stickers before I have even started scanning their groceries.

I usually give people an extra sticker or two if they're nice to me (because so many people don't claim them). But for people who I generally dislike, who are smartasses, or who are like the above, I do not. Does this make me a bastard? :)

not at all, you're doing your job, and being nicer to those people who in your eyes deserve an extra sticker. nothing wrong with that. I've given a spare one or two out on occasion.


Also, one of our trolley contractors comes in with a bunch of receipts, he's obviously found in trolleys, and asks for stickers for them. i gave them because that's proper ballsy.

I actually really dislike anyone who scans their own edr card (along with people who think its cool to walk behind the register next to me) I don't go into their offices and click send on all their emails while they're busy doing other stuff. keep out of my work area and wait till I damn well ask for your card. grr. end rant.I always give extra stickers, so many people don't take them, May as well put them to good use!saw a sushi bar being built in another Woolies I visited today, anyone else getting one?

Yeah true haha, and really? He must really like his schools :p with our state raffle, our manager said we had to "sell another 50 raffle tickets today" so I'd bribe people with like five E&L stickers for a $2 raffle ticket. They jumped at that opportunity, and we ended up making our mark :) probably had more to do with the lady who made people feel bad "Would you like to buy a raffle ticket and work wonders for sick kids?" haha :p

AGREED! Urgh, well it doesn't really worry me usually. Only when I'm tired and cranky and looking for excuses to hate people. And really, you have people come behind the register? Why do they do that? Smart-ass fuckholes?
I always imagine a scenario of a customer walking into our service desk and helping themselves to cigarettes, and imagining myself swearing top-note at them, "GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY SHOP!" Pretty sure I would never do this.

And I say I'm not retarded... haha.

I absolutely hate it when people scan their EDR cards. I've had a customer do that once when I wasn't a supervisor and had almost finished entering one of those LONG tedious reduced to clear barcodes. I cracked the shits at that point.
I haven't had anyone come behind the register, but if they did then I would have absolutely no issue in telling them to get out and fast...

Urgh yes that is so annoying! Quite frankly, I love it how I'm searching for Fruit/Veg on the screen and they try to scan it, and it won't work, and I'll receive a snarly look from the customer.

I've been working as an operator so much more often lately and have forgotten how difficult some people can be. Some lady scoffed at me because I didn't put her toilet paper in a bag. HULLO, YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS EVER WANTED TOILET PAPER IN A BAG.

Or some guy who wants "everything double bagged, with big bags, and not packed too heavy." Why? What a waste of plastic.

Or the woman who reckon's she paid for three hot chickens when a machine was broken, and who didn't even leave her name or phone number or any type of details about herself. She ended up getting three hot chickens for free!!

Or the woman who left her cigarettes on one of the registers, and blames one of the other operators for not giving them to her. "I had to drive half an hour back here just to get my cigarettes! They should have been put in my trolley, it's all your fault, I'm never shopping here EVER AGAIN!" Guess who comes in three days later.

Or those who expect to get E&L stickers on their cigarettes. NO. Or those who expect scanning policies on cigarettes. NO. Or those who expect me to sell them a SIM card without I.D. NO. Or those who whinge about how expensive everything we sell is compared to Aldi.

I think I got myself into a bit of a tiz. Sorry. I've just kept that bottled up for so long.

BTW if we see someone smoking in-store, what are we to do? Ask them to leave?

On top of that, we have a police station up the street with two police officers. That is all we have in our town, and I bet half the time, they leave it up to highway patrol to be on duty. If I caught someone shoplifting, I have no idea what I would do (in terms of getting them charged or whatever). Obviously you wouldn't call 000 over that, but what would ya do? :S

Yes you would. If Loss Prevention catches people they have to call 000, or if they are ATTEMPTING to catch them but they are resisting.
We only have store security on Friday and Saturday nights (and they're utterly useless), but other times we give centre security a buzz and they're quite good. We're one of the larger stores, so they know when we call, they need to get there quite quickly.
They need to keep the big stores happy so we probably have priority over the other stores (from talking to various people who work at the centre too)

Ahhh I see :) yeah, we don't get much shoplifting out here in the sticks haha. It's pretty casual... but thanks for telling me about 000, I didn't think it was like "EMERGENCY EMERGENCY!" sorta thing. More just a "Can you come arrest this guy, please, now?"

If that makes sense... but yeah. Thanks for lettin' me know :)
