Band 6 => Marks, HSC marks
ATAR => A number.

Do you mean 90+ Atar?

Your subjects are actually pretty good in terms of scaling (standard just aligns poorly). Try and ATAR calculator to see roughly what final marks = what ATAR.

I'm sure you mean a 90+ ATAR =P
Honestly, your subjects are fine. I did my HSC last year with a mix of subjects and did very well, if I can say so myself. I mean, come on, I got 96 for Senior Science which is supposed to be "hard-to-get"...not because the subject is hard but because its a "poor scaler" etc.

To actually answer your question, if you were to get maybe one or two band 6's, with the rest band 5's, or maybe a better mix of those, you're likely to get a 90+ ATAR.
If there is ONE thing that I urge you to listen to, it'd be not to worry about scaling and all that. As long as you do well in a subject, you will get good final marks. They won't penalise you getting good marks at all.

Specifically;

English: 90+ HSC Mark
Economics: 80-85+ HSC Mark
Modern History: 85-ish + HSC Mark
Ancient History: 80-85+ HSC Mark
Biology: 85-ish + HSC Mark
2 Unit Maths: 80+ HSC Mark

Those types of marks would set you up pretty well for a 90+ ATAR, depending a bit on the strength of your HSC Year's cohort. You dont need to be getting 90+ for everything

Agreed, you can waste so much energy on this topic which you have pretty much no control over.

I know aye!
Honestly, it does bug me how some people go ON AND ON about how its the most important thing on the face of the Earth...it's not, and you cant control it 0.o
It's the same with kids who freak out because they're "only coming 2nd" or go all "I just got 89% now I cant get a 90+ ATAR"

That 96 is before scaling though, the 96 would of been scaled to something else.

So if someone was really good at english and decided to take up standard just so they could 'ace' it... would they be able to get say at 99.95 ATAR? Hypothetically like, a person capable of ext 2 english did standard got 100 HSC mark???
... not that this would happen but..?

This is kinda true. The majority of people who do really well in Standard English are those that get 85+, purely because it is much harder to get a Band 6 in the subject compared to HSC Advanced English.This is because HSC English Paper 1 is common to both Standard and Advanced students, so typically the Advanced Students do much better than Standard students in this section and kinda take up the higher spots if that makes sense.

Yeah I get what you're saying. I was trying to focus on more how people say some subjects are shit so if you do those you wont get a good ATAR, which is purely 100% untrue.

If you were good at English and did Standard for that reason, you'd be incredibly stupid imo.
Honestly, if hypothetically you were that good, you should do Ext.1 as well because both subjects I personally found incredibly easy to get good marks, as for me it was all memorisation.

Completely true, a girl at my school last year got 98+ with subjects like general maths, ancient history, legal studies, and society and culture.

Same here. Not to sound stuck up or anything, but I got an Atar of 94 with HSC Marks of;

Adv.English: 94
Ext.1 English: 44/50
Biology: 89
Senior Science: 96
Modern History: 86
Japanese: 84

And these marks just go to show, if you screw up a couple assessment tasks, it isn't too big of a deal. For Modern History, I always got full marks for the assessments, but for the actual Half-Yearly and Trial which weigh more, i got 69% and 55% respectively... Ended up getting an Exam Mark of 86 by some divine intervention/miracle =P
