Title really sums up my question. When does MX2 actually get nuts and it would be nice to list the hardest topics of MX2. I just did complex numbers and it's pretty much the same as plain old algebra (almost) and is rather straight forward. All I know is that Harder 3U is considered as alot of things along the lines of "bull shit". xD.

cheers,

In general harder 3u is the hardest, however it is at its peak when they combine harder 3u with proving irrationality by contradiction as in the 2003 paper..that is among the hardest possible question...also sometimes they can make really hard series questions involving integrals where you need to understand the proper definition of integration..apart from harder 3u mechanics is probably the second hardest, although most mechanic questions are straight forward, there are some outlier questions that are really ambigious. The other topics in EX2 are fairly easy, the hardest questions are usually formed from these 2 above topics..however when a topic is put into q8 it is never easy...so with saying that whatever topic they put into 8 they make hard

@maths man,
So you're saying Harder 3U is king of the mountain followed by Mechanics however if it is in Q8 onwards is always hard

It's not that bad overall.
depends wat ur aiming for. if you want anything below 93 its piss easy bcuz then you dont have to worry about question 6, 7 ,8 in the hsc but if you want anything 95 or above it takes a bit more work.

I want around 90 but as high as possible to help fix up my weaker English marks (rank 50/150 in #30 school =/).

MX2 gets harder, but not absolutely insane. I reckon the most 'insane' topic you'll do would be, as you said, harder 3 unit. Conics has long algebraic working out, but it's not very rigourous. In my opinion, the course is overrated - it's not as scary as people say it is. But it's different for everybody.

Yep harder 3u is defs the hardest, because it involves deeper understanding of the whole 3unit course and most of the questions are usally the hardest...in my own subjective opinion i say the 2nd hardest possible questions are from mechancis and yes...if it is in q8 it is hard...I believe the BOS has a meeting for the 4u test and decide which uni book they will pull the question from

well lets say ur aiming for 91. thats like 78-80/120 raw. questions 6-8 are 45 marks in total. questions 1 and 2 are gift marks. so if u get 30/30 for Q1 and 2 u only need 50/90 from the rest to get 91 which is a sweet deal considering the scaling of MX2

You have to be joking, for some (including myself) even the other 'piss easy' questions are hard, its not called Mathematics EXTENSION 2 because everyone can get an e4...

I really think it depends on how much you have studied the type of questions they give you. You could have a great understand of the topics from studying the course from the textbook but when they put some of those harder 3u, or whatever it is in question eight, you have basically very little hope. This is why the past papers are so vital, to learn from the style of questions they set. Really, the content and concepts are not that hard to grasp, its the applying them to questions which have only the slightest connection to them and working through the unfamiliar process of an unseen question that is difficult and where it gets 'really hard'.

Um question 1 at least should be easily manageable.

Let's say it's 80 raw. I doubt I'll get 30/30 for Q1 and Q2 because I'm quite prone to some silly mistakes...so let's say 27/30 - I usually warm up and fire up and get better. I need 55 more marks and well, there's 90 marks left to pick so...Q3 and 4: 23/30, Q5 and Q6: 20/30? Q7 and Q8: 10/30. This makes 80/120 Sound good? LOL

Yeah I guess, and question 5 the same difficulty? My point is that sure Question 7 and 8 are hard, and if you cant get them dont worry, but the others arent incredibly easy either. Question 1, 2 and 3 are very predictable and definitely manageable, but I hate when people dumb down others with comments about a subject being "piss easy".

i was comparing the questions relatively so question 5 in hsc 4U is easy compared to questions 7-8. but definitely question 5 in 4U is much harder than 2U and 3U maths exam questions.

Q1-4 is like 3U level per se. Q5-6 is decent - except I lose a few marks on some form of probability. Q7-8 varies a bit because sometimes I strike lucky.

Definitely agree with the Q7-8 varying. I nailed the 1995 Q7 but got annihilated on the 1997 one.

Yeah alright, I guess in my current stress mode I assumed you were insulting everyone who couldn't 100% the first 5 questions. I apologise! And along the theme I agree, Question 7's especially vary, sometimes achievable and other times insane.

Ah goodluck all, two weeks!

Well a bit off topic, but the most ridiculously complex maths comes in string theory, or just generally relativity and quantum mechanics. That's in terms of physics, maybe there's other maths out there Which I dont know of....
