im really paranoid that i wont make any good friends :( and its really important to me that i do make some, because this summer i lost my two best friends (long story) so now i feel like i have nobody.

does anyone know what subjects are easier to make friends in? for example maybe psychology 1? how about human resources units, i dont think many commerce students major in that since theres only one lecture session time?
Hey hun, don't feel paranoid. Just talk to people during the first few weeks. Everyone loves a really friendly person which they can open up to. Chin up. All the best :spin:

god this has made me even more nervous....

academic advising was bad enough. got there like 45 min early. so went to go get my ID card. saw these guys waiting inside the student centre. (caucasian/surfer looking). and it was taking forever. so i leant on the door and a guy sitting in the chair in front of me turned around and was like "oh! hey im michael" im like "hey im beth".

i was like SHIT. already met a person already!! and it hasnt even started yet. turns out hes doinng the same course as me. he ddnt say. i saw him raise his hand wen the proff asked whos doing psych as their major.LOL

apart from that. it was really really awkward. i was looking at people all around me. most people were with people they knew. they were in groups of two or three. and people saw people they knew from their schools etc.

and i just sat around looking awkward. playing a game on my fone until someone came close to me.. and i stopped playing on my fone. i ddnt wanna be caught playing bubble pop. LMAO.

i was also scoping out for possible friendships. yeah.... the first day of uni will be AWKWARD FOR SURE :/

Did they die?
no >.< i didnt mean to make it sound like that... i meant that they continuously were dogging me for their other friends, we had a massive falling out, they stopped talking to me for no reason (dont even know what i did) so i got pissed off at them and yeah havent seen them since schoolies basically.

They are crap. Yes i will be trying to make friends, and i've heard that manning bar's a good place to start from a few people now, so i think ill try there. Do you have to be 18 to get in though? because im only 17 (until may)

nahhh, just to buy alc. you need to though.

p.s. sounds cliche - but there's a lot of people in the same position, don't know anyone starting uni with them, anxious about making new friends. just be open, don't be afraid to intro yourself to people in lectures etc. you'll be fine ;)

My O-Week starts with this thing called O-Quest where you get put in groups and do a quest thingy with them. You get a mentor as well. The times are separated by what course you're doing so I'm assuming that means you meet up with people doing the same course.
I'm hoping this will ease me into being with new people =S

I'm the worst when it comes to making friends. It took me till year 10 till I made friends that stuck around. There's only a few kids from my school that are going to the same uni, and no one's even in the same faculty but luckily one of my best friends is, and we've made plans to have lunch everyday at least till we make friends cause we happen to have breaks at the same times so hopefully that'll help too.

What uni is that at? The getting-to-know-eachother exercises are usually really lame, but they do work and I'm kinda grateful for them hahaha. I hope they have some at my first day...

I just dont want to get to uni and find its full of the same tools that i went to highschool with... what are the chances of finding genuine people who share your interests and views and arent a bunch of boring f*ckers? I'm going to assume theyre high but then again, you never know what you'll find.

Try not coming across as such a snob as you do on here. That will help.

I'm going to UWA, in Perth. I'm hoping I'll have the courage to talk hahaha and that the students doing my course are nice. xD I don't mind getting-to know-each-other games if everyone participates. It's kinda fun in a kiddie way =D

I'm in 2 faculties as well so I gotta go to both welcomes @_@

Believe it or not you are probably lucky. Now you get to re-invent yourself and start afresh with a clean slate. Your old friends won't be influencing your new friends and you will be more open to opportunities that present themselves that your old friends might have held you back from participating in. Embrace your freedom from them and talk to everyone that tries to talk to you. They don't have to end up being your best mates, but they could well introduce you people and activities that end up life-long passions.
