i'll make a joke on a stereotype with no intention of being racist but moreso to make fun of those who believe truth in these stereotypes then i will get flamed for being a racist. or even if it is not about pointing that out people forget that it's a joke and no truth or personal meaning is reflected in what i'm saying

It all depends on the intention. Like that KFC was no way intented to be racist, so everyone needs to grow up about it.

There are some instances of it being a problem, HC and the KFC affair being two examples that come to mind but for the large part far from political correctness being a problem, advocation of more tolerance or criticisms of rank bigotry are written off as "political correctness gone mad."

These things are completely arbitrary. So it's pretty much impossible to avoid offending anyone when commenting on subjects involving cultures or social groups. Although I find that if you avoid generalizing, people usually can't call you racist.

I have an example. My disclaimer is that I haven't backed it up with any research, it's just what my environmental science teacher told us, unless he's having us on.

Hurricanes, yeah? We all know they give each one a name. Katrina, Rita, Jeanne, etc.
Turns out that some American lobbying groups have contacted the meteorology authorities and complained that giving hurricanes female names promotes gender inequality and should be given male names as well. They have no choice but to comply.
Similarly, pro-ethnic groups have done the same, meaning that a share of hurricanes now require ethnic names. So it's now hurricane Sally, Tom, Mohammed, Drago, Tamiko...

Odd example I know, but how's that for political correctedness, eh?

Its so freaking weird that people actually believe in this. I mean last time I checked the word "indian" refers to the same person as "native american". If we start all calling them native americans will that become a generalisation and politically incorrect?
