So I dont have a great understanding of how the ATAR is calculated using your internal results, external results, ranks, scaling, and all that, but upon seeing my results yesterday, I was very optimistic that I would get an ATAR of around 92 (just a feeling, built from the marks and results of students in previous years). However, when I logged in to see my ATAR today, however, I was extremely disappointed with an 89.05.

I got 3 band 6's, one low band 5, and one high band 4.

Hera are my HSC results in the order of course entered, exam mark, assessment mark, HSC mark, and performance band:

English Adv - 91/100,,, 88/100,,, 90,,, band6
Mathematics 2u - 76/100,,, 77/100,,, 77,,, band4
PDHPE - 93/100,,, 92/100,,, 93,,, band6
German Continuers - 85/100,,, 76/100,,, 81,,, band5
Polish Continuers - 94/100,,, 93/100,,, 94,,, band6

Can someone explain to me why the FUCK I didnt get 90+ which was my aim since the start of the year? I dont think ATAR's can be changed, but this is more to help my friends and siblings in lower grades avoid being fucked over. Of course, if there are ways to appeal then I will definitely consider them.

Could someone with some experience in this please just explain to me why my ATAR is so low, and the students in my grade which I dominated throughout high school and even this year in some of the same classes did so much better. (from memory, at least 15 such peers had over 90). Thank you

Also my schools rank last year was somewhere between 55 and 65.

To OP: you didn't get your goal because your other subjects dragged you down heaps.

errr.. Friend of mine got 3 band 6's, 1 band 5, 1 band 4.
ATAR of 94.35
Thats what I got, except I ended up with ~95.

Your languages are generally not very high scaling and neither is PDHPE, AFAIK. Meanwhile the maths mark will have pulled you down considerably.

I haven't checked this in an ATAR calculator but I reckon you could have made 90ATAR with maybe a mid band 5 in maths. If you're looking for advice to give to younger students, I'd say to do over 10 units so you're not stuck with a result which is a fair bit lower than your others.

Congrats on your results anyway, even if you're unsatisfied with the final ATAR.

Alex, its clear you dont know shit, but.. thanks anyway?

kk thanks most of you for the comments, especially 57o1i (quite original name), who had a very clear answer. I know 89.05 is still a good mark, Im just disappointed that I didnt reach my goal despite really pushing throughout the year, especially during the last few months.
Ill tell my sister to drop maths, stay with 12 units, and choose subjects in which she feels she can get a minimum of mid 80's.
