lol this isnt so much of an answer but:

first question: WTF!! lolol
Yeah, i got part 1 as aluminium but for the 2nd part i made up stuff :/

For the silver plating, did you guys just make an electrolytic cell with the spoon as the cathode and Silver Nitrate electrolyte?

Yeah I did that but I didn't know what anode to use.. what did you use?

Yer...

Platinum (anode) - graphite/stainless steel
Artifact (cathode)
Silver nitrate - electrolyte

any inert metal =S i just used stainless steel like the stimulus piece given above

hahaha yea first part was nice n easy,,,,but in the second i was WTF?!?!?!?! and just described uses of: more suitable metals, coating with less reactive metals, and painting as methods of protection =S

I just said an inert graphite electrode was used as the anode.

And then i have equations showing Ag+ getting reduced and water being oxidised.

I'm hoping i'm right, made it up on the spot XD

I compared it to aluminium and the inside of aluminium cans has to coated in something else as well because otherwise it'd react with acids in soft drinks etc etc... gah such a dodgy answer lol

My friend said that he wrote now the Laws of Electrolysis by Faraday. Was this necessary do you think?

FUCK

I put the negative wire to the inert thing and the positive wire to the spoon (shoulda had other way round).

How many marks would i lose for doin that?

Out of 3. So you will probably get 1 for having the right idea?

7 Marker was easily predictable this year , in 2008 nothing from focus area 1-4 was included , yeh nothing.

So 100% it would have been from there as i expected , and it did.

As for the question asked about silver , it is an exact question ripped from conquering chemistry , have a look at it.

Make the spoon, anode , and thus the silver gets electrons from it , therfore plating on it.

Goodluck

Reduction occurs at cathode, so shouldnt u make the spoon cathode so Ag ions get reduced there to form ag solid. but this paper was fucking hard i had no idea

Man i pumped this section. i loved the 7 marker on the scientists haha.

although i agree, a part II was dodgy for me, but the rest of it was totally fine.

LOL omg wtf was I thinking. I didnt even know what silver plating meant and I wrote some shit about dipping the spoon into the solution and drying it:rofl:

Platinum (anode) - not silver as it is in a SCHOOL laboratory
Artifact (cathode)
Silver nitrate - electrolyte
haha. platinum costs over 100 times silver per gram. what type of school do you go to? i put graphite rod.

i lol'd at that too. nice sig ;)

and uhhh yes. i just used something that wouldnt react in place of Ag+ ions
