You guys are seriously blaming the two current deployments/wars on Obama? Obama never promised to simply bring all the troops out of Iraq + Afghanistan as soon as he got in office - heck, he never said he would do anything about bringing troops out of Afghanistan.
Not to mention the vast empire of overseas military bases and the torture and illegal imprisonment of captives without trial.
The closure of Guantanamo Bay has got to be something which addresses that issue - and you know as well as I do that torture and all that shit will always go on, in every country. Wars + large prisons are hard to change, you can't say that he has 'continued' the policies that Bush put into place - fuck, you can't bring out tens/hundreds of thousands of troops with the click of his fingers, and you can't suddenly close down a prison with thousands of prisoners, some who are actually there for the right reasons.
But despite that - troops are already all out of Iraq, with the few that are remaining to come out some time next year. That, and the Guantanamo bay stuff does show that Obama cares, and that he isn't continuing Bush's war mongering policies. Fuck, everyone knows that something has to be done about Iran, they have a fucking nuclear program. Even the UN is sending people in to take a look at their crap.
Yep, plus public threats for a third war in Iran.
Can't say I saw these - care to link me to somewhere that Obama openly threatens war if Iran don't cease their nuclear program?
All the above doesn't mean that I think Obama should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize, like someone said above, the nomination cutoff was 1st of Feb, and he was only in office for 9 days at that point. I am, however, going off at jennyfromdabloc. Far out - it's not like he applied to get the award, in fact, he's probably shocked that he got it.
