Haven't to someone in our grade today during English. Except, I guess they were consciously cheating.

Well, with regards to your situation - it's your fault, you can't blame anyone else.

Screwed, big time. No idea, head teacher English came down, she seemed quite nice about it, told him to go wait outside the office. No idea what happened beyond that. Was pretty distracting for everyone though, cause the examiner caught him, and she was yelling out: "show me the notes" etc, until he reluctantly gave them to her, then she yelled "YOU'RE GONE!". Everyone was looking up instead of writing....

I'm surprised such a small thing can be taken so seriously.

You should maintain your innocence, but don't sound too apologetic. I will also suggest that you practice stating your argument infront of the mirror, so when you meet the principle, you sound as sincere as possible.

Darn that sucks, don't think that's happened in our school recently at least. Did your teacher check if that was the only writing on you? Did you happen to mention that legislation in your exam? e.g in an equality and difference essay. Since suggestions to resolve cheating in a BOS pamphlet states that "zero marks may be awarded for part or all of the examination" (BOS HSC Assessments and Submitted Works - Advice to students) maybe you could argue that you should only lose marks in the section vaguely related to anti discrimination if they refuse to accept you didnt cheat. Would've been better if they checked your hand before not after. I' probably cry if that happened to me but that's not a great option:( Hopefully being very honest might get you through. Good luck with the meeting!

Worst part about it is that they'll think you're lying. I mean who writes notes on their hands and forgets to rub it off then gets caught in an exam?
I mean it's kind of obvious if something's written on your hand.. Maybe make up some other, more believable story?

that's harsh , i know at uni they're quite strict but for a trial that's just crap.
I mean if you had stuff written all over then i would understand but for one thing that's rubbish.

Be honest about your situation. Calm yourself down during the meeting and just tell them what really happened.

yeah agreed....don't get agressive :D

also, would having that writeen on your hand actually have helped you? as in, was there a massive thing about it in the exam?

35% = 3 atar points? am I missing something here...
Yeah, lol. OP's technically wrong but meh...she is just stressing how important this Trial was.

definitely worthwhile for an interview for medicine. :p

but nah seriously, it shouldnt be too much of an issue. just tell the truth and state that if you really intended to cheat, you wouldve wrote it in a more inconspicuous place...

tell them if you were actually trying to cheat, you wouldve been far more cautious than to write it on the back of your hand.

Try crying and getting your parents to rant and storm at the school. It'd help if you have a teacher or someone at the school who knows you really well and would vouch for you.

If you have a good rep. I think you'd have a good chance of getting out of it.

cheating is unethical.

it's almost as unethical as lying about subject choicez.

Since when were'nt you allowed to write a few words on your hand?

I mean, its quite similar to memorise/regurgitate, its just that its easier.

In both methods, the knowledge was never really YOURS, you were just "borrowing" it

Good to know that I was so deep into the exam that it didn't even notice it.
