This title is actually quite philosophical.

However, a subject that allows you to discuss basically anything, from any viewpoint (as long as you justify) is hardly pointless.

The restrictions, though, are the set texts / approach generally needed when answering the question. This is easy to overcome as long as you find something substantial / of interest to discuss relative to the question / syllabus (which is actually quite broad).

I take it you're not doing well in English then?

HSC English can be stupid in some aspects, but if you're not smart enough to work out and play the game, you deserve poor marks.

This is aimed at all those whining about English.

There are many subjects that I would consider "less real" than English, however.

Thank you using readable English now.

In a previous post you were proclaiming your hatred for the subject, it seems strange you chose to do such high levels of it. Was that before the inevitable cynicism you will develop studying the subject settled in?

fucking lol.

Edit: Guess i need to add an uhhh ... opinion; Being able to analyse a text and find themes and techniques that are apparently omnipresent dosen't really speak much about your english abilities does it?

Cwappy subject.

No after, i just use it as a means of acquiring marks, im good at it, so why not do it. Still doesnt take away the fact that its bullshit and i agree with you, there are other subjects worse.

Be honest but, no matter HOW MUCH U KNOW you can never go into an exam room expecting full marks when u come out coz u never know who will mark your paper and what their opinion is on the matter agree?
Well he listened to your punctuation request.

English is the BEST fucking HSC subject. It's so easy to get marks. I love writing essays and short stories.

Mathematics and Science on the other hand are just utter bullshit. Too hard. General Maths is fucking hard! I just hate Maths altogether!

Btw, I'm asian :read:

I don'tkn. I dony rckn what we actually learn in english.. should be called engish! It puts us down to recieve such low marks for english, and then compare that english mark, to the fact that were suppose to be speaking english?? does that make sense??

In other words, we should change english to "literature" Makes it easier to hate and accept the fact that were shit a "literature", and not "english"

and what sucks about english is making you write essays and ssays about what you dont beleive it.

Personally, its all bullcrap >_>"

I dont know, i think its silly that we have to do english as a subject, I do extention and i enjoy it but i know ALOT of my friends who also despise english
I would have prefered to have done another language like french or italian over english but unfortunately my school doesnt offer languages for the HSC and i have to go outside of school to learn them
Personally sometimes i do think english is a waste of time because i can already speak it quite well, although we do learn some useful writting skills techniques and skills

yet another 'english is stupid' thread
There's always a thread that shows up every year about this = =
Can't ppl just give it a rest? its always going to be a "REAL" subject just cuz a lot of ppl don't like it doesnt make it less of a subject
