But DP, you must have got around 96 in english. Thats quite good.

You may not have been that good in your interview if youd got, say, below 50 in english.

yes, i got a 96
however
the english that is assessed in school and externally has only a very very small bearing on what scaredytiger said (interviews and assignments).
really, the only things you need is to have proper grammar, etc and articulation. yes, articulation is hard for some but it's not really a skill you acquire from HSC english
look, not many people get below a 50 in english.

If you look at the course as a whole, including class discussion, conceptual analysis, and practise looking at the English language in depth; there is more worth in the course than merely the assessment.

year 12 english ftw haha.
i hated it up until year 11, and was crap at it, like 91/180 or something then something changed in year 12 and it all made sense and it ended up being my best subject :) ranked 19/144 :) plus my teacher was awesome so that helped!
just rip apart the syllabus and figure out what they want you to do. as in, i made a list of each major point from the syllabus and made sure every essay i did had an element of each point from the syllabus, and went heaps better. that was my secret! cause no matter what the question was, if you had an element of each point of the syllabus, you were guaranteed good marks as long as you could also manipulate it to answer the question somewhat. that's why i liked english- i always knew what they were gonna ask me!

English will be the reason I don't get my desired UAI. And I believe it is wasteful since I am average at it.

lol, english will screw up my Uai, i get like bloody 60% for advanced english, how am i ment to get a uai greater than 90 with it being counted, i get high 80s and low 90s in all my other subjects except english is going to screw me.

i mean if was just complusory to do i would be all that worried about it, but its complusory for the uai as well, so much for equality in education opportunites, this system benifits people that are good at english and punishes people that are bad at it by forcing them to pick (and do well) at a subject that they dont like or else be destined to some mediocre uai .

If english was not complusory in uai calculation i could get 90+ easy, now one of my 80-90% subjects will be scraped for shitty english in my uai.

Also i think i have formulated a theory as to why english is complusory, because if it wasnt complusory simply no one would pick it out of their own free will, and hence, english teachers would be out of a job (that would be a shame, no people to teach shit shakespeare)

you're doing my subjects -

79 eng
88 chem
85 phys
91 4unit
92 3unit

UAI = 95.65
it's quite easy with our high scaling subject combination.

Re: Anyone else hate English as much as me?

I loved English when I was in year 7 and 8, it was my favorite subject.... then I got a teacher who turned my love to hate in year 9 and guess what, I have never got another teacher since.... now I sit in English and wish I wasn't there.......
yeah that's what happened to me too, a bad teacher turns you off the subject!

but all you need to do is to do well in the assessments...
the class discussions aren't all that important etc

You can hate it but it's important in being able to speak, write, read, view and represent the different ideas of this world in a clear and logical way and become an articulate member of society.

english is the biggest waste of time but if i had to choose between advance and standard = i'd choose standard coz advance talks about gay shit like shakespeare and hamlet while standard we're studying movies and books. But all in so both of them are still GAY :haha:
