Christianity 'could die out within a century'

Research by the Orthodox Jewish organisation Aish found that just over a third of people thought religions like Christianity and Judaism would still be practiced in Britain in 100 years' time.

Although four in 10 people said they would choose to be a member of the Christian religion, almost the same number said they would rather practice no religion at all.

Buddhism however, proved more attractive than both Islam and Judaism, and was chosen by nine per cent of those questioned.

Aish UK's executive director Rabbi Naftali Schiff said the results of the YouGov poll of 2,000 people were alarming.

"It clearly demonstrates that religion, including Judaism, is becoming unattractive to the British public.
"At Aish we know that Judaism provides real meaning and enrichment to one's life. Whilst we have attracted many disinterested Jews back to Jewish identity it is clear there is much work to be done."

Research published earlier this year suggested that church attendance is declining so fast that the number of regular churchgoers will be fewer than those attending mosques within a generation.

According to Religious Trends, an analysis of religious practice in Britain, the huge drop off in attendance means that the Church of England, Catholicism and other denominations will become financially unviable.

In contrast, the number of actively religious Muslims is predicted to increase from about one million today to 1.96 million in 2035.

"Die out"? No.

Relative decline? Probably.

Although maybe impending world disaster will inspire a return to hopeless mysticisms.

Although I don't appreciate your calling it hopeless mysticism I agree with the sentiment. It will decline but for a few grandiose events that will produce temporary surges. We've for a long time had relaxed christians who might go to Church on Easter or something and that's it but I think without having checked the stats that we will see a sharp decline in the next few years because baptism no longer really seems to matter whereas relaxed christians still used to for whatever reason place alot of importance upon it. Hence alot less people who haven't gone to church in over a year will be putting "christian" on their census forms in twenty years time.

i dont think it'd ever, 'die out'. theres a big difference between actively practicing and just believing which makes you christian. A lot of people believe, but does not actively go to church for example. This doesnt make them less christians so to say. I think the trend is that, monotheistic religions (christianity, judaism and islam) are seen as less favourable then the polytheistic religions (buddhism and Hinduism). Afterall, the news and in fact history is faced with monotheistic religions fighting each other, unable to indentify the fact that they have so much in common and perhapes should embrace that instead.

Jesus will show himself in 2012 and bring about the end of days, where all non-believers will be sent straight to hell.
You mean in the form of a "Palin 4 Pres" campaign?

For starters, Buddhism isn't polytheistic. It isn't even necessarilt theistic at all. You can be an atheist and a Buddhist. You can also technically be a Christian Buddhist. Buddhism is just a way of life and of lookign at the world.
Secondly, I don't think anyone in Britain honestly finds Hinduism a more attractive religion than Christianity. They'd be seen as just as bad as each other.
And Hindus still fight other religions. Ever heard of the Sri Lankan civil war? Or the three major conflicts between Pakistan and India who were divided upon religious lines in 1947? It's just that more media coverage is given to Abrahamic religious fights cos they're more interesting.
Thridly, a lot of people who identify as non-practicing Christians would technically just be unaligned theists or theistic-leaning agnostics.

You mean Palin/Christ '12? He's only a Messiah dude. Not president material. Doesn't have any experience. As opposed to Palin and her fountains of wisdom.

Oh yeah, and I also voted yes, but technically it's a no. I think it will become a minority religion of similar numbers to Islam, but not completely die out. But 90% of the populace will either be unaligned theists, agnostic or athiest. 'Bout time too. So sick of bloody ideoligical dogmatism.

What happened to the first, second and third caliphates? Oh yeah, that's right. THEY FAILED MISERABLY!!!
But why Europe first? Asia's much closer, and 1.3 billion of those retards don't even have a faith. Personally though, I would recommend heading south into sub-Saharan Africa and getting all the poor starving Skinnies first. It'll bolster your numerical supplies. Then head East and take over India cos it's already surrounded by Islams. Then north into Central Asia and Russia. Then after encircling China and Japan from the north, south and west, move in for the killing blow. By this time you would have over two-thirds of the world's popualtion. Fool-proof plan.

on a srs note, lets face it, Islamic countries are pretty much a shit whole. if they can take out Israel that would be an achievement comparable to takeing over the world.

ie, never going to happen.

That's what happens when your entire population uses their collective energies to only focus upon the next life and they all pray five times a day. I mean, fucking five times a day. Imagine the lost productivity!

I doubt it
Practising Christians will probably stay around the same - there could be a small decline or even a revival as tends to happen. Those nominally identify as being Christian on the perception of being 'born into a Christian family' will probably decline greatly as a result of merely being honest about how they declare themselves in the census.
