We all know uni students are often on tight weekly budgets when it comes to spending on food and travel expenses etc.

What are your favourite places for a cheap and decent feed?

I'll start off for UTS students...

* Market City food court
* Forresters 5buck steak!
* Scruffy Murfys 5buck meals
* KFC 2 dollar tuesdays (back in the days)
* Chinatown bread shops

Note, your options of food are limited to about 1 store if you're not into asian.

Market City Food Court isn't excatly cheap...

I'm of the perception that a normal meal would cost around $8-$10?

however, there are some places at/near the station e.g. KCF, chicken takeaway stores on both sides.
Nothing great though

For ANU students:

Don't bother with the Union food, its overpriced and shithouse, best value for money there is fish and chips $7.50.

The two private businesses The Purple Pickle and The Gods are much better, eg $7.50 will buy you a good burger, wedges, salad and a nicer envrionment to eat than the refectory. $8.50 will buy you an awesome burger. Other than that walk to civic.

Also near UTS (and close to USyd too)

-Tender Grill (UniLodge Food Court, the block before Broadway S.C)- Hamburger/Chicken burger/Veggie burger with a can of drink, $3.50 + other cheap deals.

-You can also get some cheap Thai and Malaysian in that UniLodge food court ($4 for a small plate)

-The Broadway Convenience Store sells those Asian buns and after a certain time at night they are marked down really cheap.

-Some of the shops on King St have good specials.

-You can always go to BiLo and just buy some food there

-There is a Chinese shop on Glebe Pt Rd that has a $6.50 lunch special, and the meal is really big and it is cooked fresh (not been sitting in a bain marie all day)... it's very nice

-Subway, if you collect your stamps and get a free sub lol

What about making your own food?
Are there any kitchens or such you can use in Syd?

Also, where can you get cheap groceries around the city?

Cheapest is the $3.20 large plate of chips at the unibar. You can add melted cheese and gravy for no extra cost. God that's fucking huge.

At macquarie the upstairs cafe next to the bar has cheap food such as roasts, pies, chips etc. My fave is the chicken pie with chips and gravy, very filling for around $5.50
